Paid Graduate Programmes & Internships Open in SA Right Now (June 2026)
Six paid SA graduate programmes and internships still open in mid-2026 — verified deadlines, who actually qualifies, real stipend ranges, and how to stand out.
Info: Link update, 14 September 2026. This is a June 2026 snapshot. The June and August deadlines below have passed. Check the linked employer pages for current vacancies and future intakes.
Why this list is different
Every few weeks a "5 paid grad programmes paying R43k!" post goes viral, gets 4,000 saves, and half the links are already dead or pointing at the wrong thing. People apply to programmes that closed a month ago, or send a CV to a "graduate programme" that turns out to be a bursary for first-years.
So I checked every one of these myself on 18 June 2026 — clicked the link, found the closing date, and worked out whether it's an actual paid job, an internship, or study funding. Deadlines move and pages change, so always confirm on the official site before you spend an evening on the application. But as of today, here's what's real and what's worth your time.
Watch out: a stipend is not a salary, and a bursary is not a job. I've labelled each one so you know exactly what you're applying for.
Deadlines at a glance
| Programme | What it actually is | Who can apply | Closes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NTT Nissan Graduate Trainee | Automotive / dealership graduate job | BCom (Business Mgmt, Marketing, Tourism, Financial Mgmt) | 30 Jun 2026 | Open — closing soon |
| SAB Graduate Management Trainee | FMCG leadership track (Joburg) | Any completed degree | 30 Jun 2026 | Open — closing soon |
| Vodacom Internship 2027 | 12-month paid internship → grad pipeline | Degree by end-2026, 65%+ avg, SA citizen/PR | 31 Aug 2026 | Open |
| Absa (multiple streams) | Tech / Risk / CA graduate jobs | Honours+ for most streams; varies | Varies by stream | Some open — check the hub |
| Nedbank Bursary 2027 | Study funding — not a job | Undergrad/Honours in STEM, financial need | 31 Aug 2026 | Open (bursary) |
| Standard Bank Graduate | Banking graduate streams | Honours/Masters, 65%+, age 18–30 | Main streams closed ~31 May | Likely closed — watch next intake |
The two with a fuse on them are NTT Nissan and SAB — both close 30 June, which is under two weeks away. Start those tonight if they fit you.
A quick reality check on pay
The viral version of this list says "earn up to R43k/month." Ignore that number — it's the ceiling of one programme, not what most people get.
Here's the honest spread for SA graduate programmes in 2026:
- Internships (like Vodacom's) usually pay an intern stipend — think roughly R8,000–R15,000/month. The value isn't the cash, it's the conversion into a permanent grad role afterwards.
- Graduate management / banking tracks (SAB, the banks' grad streams) are where the real packages sit — roughly R25,000–R40,000+/month depending on the stream, with the chartered-accountant and corporate-investment-banking routes at the top.
- Bursaries (Nedbank's) pay your tuition and sometimes a living allowance while you study — you're not earning a salary, you're getting your degree funded.
Apply for the right reasons. An internship that turns into a permanent job at Vodacom beats a one-off stipend number every time.
1. NTT Nissan — Graduate Trainee Programme
What it is: A graduate job inside one of SA's largest motor dealer groups. You rotate through real dealership operations and get trained into the automotive retail world. Intake starts 1 July 2026.
Who qualifies: BCom graduates — Business Management, Marketing, Tourism, or Financial Management Sciences. They want people who are adaptable and willing to relocate to wherever a dealership needs them.
Closes: 30 June 2026.
Current opportunities: The June 2026 graduate listing is no longer available. Check NTT Group careers for current vacancies and future intakes.
Tip: "willing to relocate" is doing heavy lifting in their requirements. If you genuinely are, say so explicitly in your application — it's a tie-breaker.
2. SAB — Graduate Management Trainee Programme
What it is: One of the most competitive grad programmes in the country, 30+ years old. You rotate through field offices, breweries, and operational sites, and you're being groomed as a future manager — not a temp. Based in Johannesburg.
Who qualifies: Graduates with a completed degree. It's broad on discipline because they're hiring for leadership potential, not a narrow skill.
Closes: 30 June 2026.
How to apply: SAB Graduate Trainee Programme 2026 (Graduates24).
Watch out: "competitive" is not marketing here. Your application and assessments need to be sharp. Don't send a generic CV.
3. Vodacom — Internship Programme 2027
What it is: A 12-month paid internship that's a deliberate pipeline into the Vodacom Discover Graduate Programme (a permanent role with a 2-year training track). Internship start dates are 1 February and 1 March 2027.
Who qualifies: You need to have completed (or be completing) an undergraduate degree by the end of 2026, a minimum 65% aggregate, less than two years of formal work experience, and you must be a South African citizen by birth/naturalisation or a permanent resident.
Closes: 31 August 2026.
How to apply: Vodacom Internship Programme.
Done when: you've applied to the internship and read up on the Discover Graduate Programme, because the internship is the front door to it.
4. Absa — graduate programmes (multiple streams)
What it is: Absa doesn't run one grad programme — it runs several, each with its own deadline and requirements. The ones live for 2026 include a Technology Graduate Programme (a two-year tech accelerator) and a Risk Graduate Programme (credit/risk specialisation), among others.
Who qualifies: Varies by stream. The Technology stream wants an Honours-or-equivalent qualification completed by 30 March 2026. Other streams differ — read each one.
Closes: There's no single "31 July" deadline. Each stream closes on its own date, so don't trust one number.
How to apply: Browse the open streams on Absa's hub on Leaply, then confirm requirements and deadlines on Absa's own careers site before applying.
Tip: because deadlines differ per stream, the move is to open the hub, filter for what matches your degree, and check the closing date on that specific posting — not on a forwarded screenshot.
5. Nedbank — Bursary Programme 2027 (study funding, not a job)
What it is: This is the one most lists get wrong. The Nedbank thing closing 31 August 2026 is a bursary for the 2027 academic year — it funds your studies, it is not a paid graduate job. The Nedbank graduate programmes (like Group Internal Audit) close on different, earlier dates.
Who qualifies: South African citizens planning to study an undergraduate or Honours degree in STEM or green-economy fields, with proven financial need. If you did Grade 12 with Maths Literacy (not pure Maths), you won't qualify.
Closes: 31 August 2026 (bursary).
How to apply: Nedbank graduates and bursaries. Questions go to Unlockyourambition@nedbank.co.za.
Watch out: only apply here if you're still studying or about to start. If you've already graduated and want a salary, this isn't your lane — look at the four above.
6. Standard Bank — graduate programmes (mostly closed for 2026)
What it is: Standard Bank runs strong banking grad streams — Corporate & Investment Banking, Chartered Accountancy, Business & Commercial, Engineering, and more. Real projects, mentorship, and a high conversion to permanent roles.
The honest status: Most of the 2026 streams closed around 30–31 May 2026 — so as of today they're likely shut. I'm including it because the careers page is where the next intake opens, and you want to be early next time.
Who qualifies (when open): Honours or Master's, 65%+ average, SA citizenship, age 18–30, under 12–24 months of work experience.
How to apply / watch: Standard Bank early-careers graduate programmes. Register on SmartRecruiters and set yourself a reminder for the next cycle.
Tip: bookmark this page and check it monthly. The people who get into bank grad programmes are the ones who applied in the first 48 hours of it opening.

How to actually get in (the part nobody posts)
Saving the list is the easy bit. These programmes get thousands of applicants for a handful of seats. Here's what separates the people who get the call:
Tailor every application. Grad recruiters can spot a copy-paste CV in three seconds. Pull the exact language from the job posting — if NTT Nissan says "adaptable and willing to relocate," those words should appear in your motivation. Match their wording to their requirements.
Prepare for the assessments, not just the interview. Banks and big corporates screen with online cognitive and situational-judgement tests (Standard Bank uses an "Odyssey" assessment, for example) before a human ever reads your CV. Practise these. Free SHL and cognitive-test practice sets exist — do a few timed rounds so the format doesn't surprise you.
Use AI to sharpen, not to write. Get an AI tool to pressure-test your CV against the job description — "what's missing, what's weak, what would a recruiter cut?" — then rewrite it in your own voice. Don't let it write the thing for you; recruiters can smell a fully-AI motivation letter, and so can their detection tools. Use it as an editor, not a ghostwriter.
Apply the day it opens. Many of these review on a rolling basis and fill seats before the official deadline. The closing date is the last day to apply, not the best day. Early applications get read when reviewers are fresh.
Have your documents ready before you start. Certified ID, academic transcript, qualification certificate, and a one-page CV. Scrambling for a certified transcript at 11pm on the deadline is how good candidates miss out.
