TL;DR

The 5 forces (slide 6, NEW)
The trends framing — directly serves SBF's stated goal of "building understanding of major trends and advancements influencing the future world of work."
| Force | What it means for SASLI laureates |
|---|---|
| AI fluency = new literacy | In 2026, "knows how to direct AI" is what "knows Excel" was in 2010 |
| Remote-first is permanent | Apply globally from Cape Town. $100K SWE jobs hire from anywhere |
| Skill-stacking > degrees | Employers care about the 3 things you can ship |
| Career = 5–7 jobs | Loyalty is to skills, not employers. Build portable assets. |
| Automation reshapes every field | Law · finance · design · healthcare · marketing — no industry stays static |
The anchor line: "AI fluency is the through-line on all 5 — the one skill that compounds across the other 4."
The agent section (slides 10-12) — the headliner
The pivot from "AI you chat with" to "AI you hire."
Slide 10 — Chatbot vs Agent (intern vs employee):
- Chatbot = the intern in the chat box. Cannot leave the box. Cannot touch your files. Answer-and-copy-paste only. Everything we did in Phase 1 + 2.
- Agent = the junior employee you actually hired. Browses, reads files, fills forms, sends drafts, tracks responses. Runs while you sleep.
Slide 11 — career-ops repo card:
github.com/santifer/career-ops— 46K stars, MIT, built on Claude Code- 4-step pipeline: scan job boards → score vs CV (4.0+/5.0 = apply) → tailored PDF → track responses
- Free, forkable, runs on a laptop
- Setup guide: /guides/run-your-first-ai-agent — 30 min
Slide 12 — Phase 3 STAND OUT (3 agents you hire):
- career-ops — your job-hunt agent · saves 5 hrs/week
- Claude Projects — your ramp-up agent · upload your team's docs, become a teammate who has "read everything"
- Research synthesis — your "5 PDFs → 1 pager" agent · the move that looks like a week of work
The group activity (slide 16 · 15 min)
Added per SBF CEO's feedback. Groups of 5 pick ONE theme, discuss for 10 min, then 5 min share-back (1 group per theme). The 3 themes + questions:
| Theme | Question |
|---|---|
| 🏠 Personal Life | Where is AI already making a difference in your daily life — and where could it make a much bigger one? Share the most useful AI moment from your past week. |
| 📚 Studies (featured) | Pick ONE module you're struggling with right now. What's the first prompt you'd run tonight to make it easier? Share with the group; refine each other's prompts. |
| 💼 Future Work | It's 2027 and you're in your first job. What can you do — using AI fluency — that the peer who skipped this workshop cannot? Be specific. |
Facilitation flow (Akhil's role during the 15 min):
- 0:00 Read out the instructions, point at the slide
- 0:00–0:01 Audience forms groups of 5 (find 4 people sitting near them)
- 0:01–0:11 Discussion · Akhil walks the room, listens, notes gold lines
- 0:11–0:14 Share-back — one volunteer per theme, ~60 sec each
- 0:14–0:15 Transition: "Great reflections. Now let's lock in what you do tonight..." → slide 17
The phones-on moment (slide 10)
The single highest-engagement moment of the workshop. Attendees pull out their phones, open claude.ai (free tier works), paste this prompt:
You are an expert career coach. Write me a 200-word cover letter for this job:
[paste the job description here]
Here's me: I'm a [year of study] student at [uni]. I'm strong at [2-3 skills]. The 3 things I most want this employer to know are: [1, 2, 3].
Match the company's tone. No clichés. End with one concrete question I should ask in the interview.
Format: 90 seconds to run · 2-3 volunteers share what came back · debrief on what made the good outputs good (that's the Anthropic Description D in action).
Tonight — 3 actions
What attendees do in the next 35 minutes after the workshop:
- Open Claude (5 min) — claude.ai, free tier. Re-run the slide 8 cover-letter prompt with a real SA job.
- Fork career-ops (25 min) — follow /guides/run-your-first-ai-agent. End state: an AI agent running on your laptop, scoring a real job posting against your CV.

The thesis (one line)
"Three tools. Three phases. Three things you do tonight. By next week, you're 18 months ahead of your peers."
Most SA students at every other university right now are using ChatGPT to write essays and hoping not to get caught. SBF SASLI laureates walked into this workshop, learned to direct chat, hire agents, and avoid the 3 traps. That's a real, verifiable head start.
